{"id":29766,"date":"2014-08-28T00:30:14","date_gmt":"2014-08-28T03:30:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=29766"},"modified":"2016-11-25T01:17:08","modified_gmt":"2016-11-25T04:17:08","slug":"highlighting-sexuality-in-a-post-dadt-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2014\/08\/28\/highlighting-sexuality-in-a-post-dadt-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Highlighting Sexuality in a Post-DADT World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the main arguments for repealing the ban on homosexuals serving in the United States military was that it would be a &#8220;non-event,&#8221; and all anyone had to do was &#8216;shoot straight, not be straight.&#8217; In an interesting bit of irony (or hypocrisy), various organizations continue to <em>emphasize<\/em> the sexuality of homosexuals, rather than <em>de<\/em>-emphasize it as they did in the runup to repeal.<\/p>\n<p>For example, a group called the National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Veterans Memorial Project has been working for a few years to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonblade.com\/2014\/08\/13\/design-announced-lgbt-veterans-memorial-d-c\/#sthash.Nc9Dc9N8.dpuf\">publicize and fund a DC-area memorial<\/a> for homosexual veterans. To be clear, that memorial would be for veterans of the military who were notable for their <em>sexuality<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, cities continue to host the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gg9cle.com\/\">Gay Games<\/a>,&#8221; which make <!--more-->a <em>point<\/em> of distinguishing athletes not on their <em>physical ability<\/em>, but on their <em>sexuality<\/em>. Rather than emphasizing the ability to throw a javelin &#8216;straight&#8217; over whether or not someone is &#8216;straight,&#8217; the homosexual community is segregating itself in the very way it claimed was discriminatory just a few years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The US Coast Guard even got in on the act, with a Facebook announcement highlighting USCG Lt.
