The editorial page of the LA Times said “It’s time to end the ban against transgender soldiers<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

The repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” may have ended the ban on openly gay and lesbian troops, but a ban remains in place for an estimated 15,000 transgender troops, who must serve in secret or not at all. This groundless policy not only weakens the military, it stigmatizes transgenderism and deprives military personnel and veterans of the transgender-specific healthcare they need<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The piece contained no new information, instead just acting as the most recent effort to keep the topic in the public conversation.<\/p>\n

The push for allowing “transgenders” — who are biologically one gender but want to be known as the other — to serve in the military was previously addressed here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As was noted at the time, the “practical” arguments are not unlike those allowing homosexuals to serve. And if the prohibition against transgender service is going to be based on practicality — rather than morality — then these advocates are right: It will ultimately fail.<\/p>\n
