In the days following the last Fort Hood shooting, several stories emerged about those who were there. Once again, a “female officer” confronted the gunman and ended the spree. As with many shootings, the assailant stopped when confronted with equally deadly force — renewing calls for the military to lift the “gun free zone” status of military bases.<\/p>\n
Another story was buried in just a short paragraph of a local CBS report, though the station elected to cite it in the headline, “Fort Hood Chaplain Saves Soldiers By Shielding Them With Own Body, Breaking Windows To Allow Them To Flee<\/a>.” Quoting LtGen Mark Milley:<\/p>\n The base\u2019s commander praised the actions of the female police officer but declined to divulge her name. Milley also said…that a base chaplain shielded soldiers with his own body before smashing window glass to allow them to flee the area.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s at least one chaplain that I\u2019m aware of that shielded and saved other soldiers<\/strong>, broke some windows, and got them to safety,\u201d Milley told reporters.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n How’s that for “spiritual service?” The Army Chaplain motto: Pro Deo et Patria<\/em>. “For God and Country.”<\/p>\n Well done, chaplain.<\/p>\n ADVERTISEMENT<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
