{"id":286,"date":"2009-01-20T21:49:49","date_gmt":"2009-01-21T01:49:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=286"},"modified":"2009-11-21T21:33:00","modified_gmt":"2009-11-22T05:33:00","slug":"opposition-to-warren-inflated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/20\/opposition-to-warren-inflated\/","title":{"rendered":"Opposition to Warren Inflated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several news <a href=\"http:\/\/christianpost.com\/Society\/Politics\/2009\/01\/poll-few-opposed-to-rick-warren-giving-inaugural-prayer-20\/index.html\">sites<\/a> have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usnews.com\/blogs\/god-and-country\/2009\/01\/20\/gallup-poll-few-object-to-rick-warren-at-obama-inauguration.html\">reported<\/a> on the results of a Gallup Poll that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gallup.com\/poll\/113881\/Poll-Little-Objection-Rick-Warren-Giving-Inaugural-Prayer.aspx\">indicates<\/a> the media may have generated a perception of &#8220;controversy&#8221; where none existed.<\/p>\n<p>The poll indicated that, contrary to recent news stories,\u00a0less than 10% of Americans disapproved of Obama&#8217;s choice of Pastor Rick Warren for his inaugural invocation.\u00a0 In fact, even among liberals and Democrats, Warren&#8217;s approval was far higher than his disapproval.\u00a0 By far the greatest number of respondents replied that they &#8220;didn&#8217;t know enough to say.&#8221;\u00a0 This led Gallup to conclude that<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>News media accounts of negative reactions&#8230;reflect&#8230;<em>vocal positions of interest groups<\/em> [rather] than an opinion&#8230;shared by the majority of the American public.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ironically, Warren himself <a href=\"http:\/\/christianpost.com\/Society\/General\/2008\/12\/rick-warren-sets-the-record-straight-23\/index.html\">said<\/a> in December that\u00a0he believed the media was responsible for\u00a0&#8220;the demonization of differences&#8221; that is polarizing and destructive to America:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The media often fans controversy and conflict to create a story and we start yelling at each other so much, nobody listens to each other anymore.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In short, the news media limited its reporting to\u00a0vocal activists, because outside of those groups, there wasn&#8217;t a\u00a0story.\u00a0 Some might say the on-again, off-again coverage of the military-religious &#8220;controversy&#8221; bears similar hallmarks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Several news sites have reported on the results of a Gallup Poll that indicates the media may have generated a perception of &#8220;controversy&#8221; where none existed.
