He grew up in his native Korea, where he fulfilled his mandatory military service:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMy dad was an atheist&#8230;and since I was young, I heard, \u2018There is no God,\u2019 and that religion was for feeble-minded people \u2013 at best,\u201d Jang told the audience.<\/p>\n<p>But his conversion to Christianity came while serving his country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy conversion happened in the military,\u201d Jang said of his mandatory service in the Korean Army. A fellow military member approached him and asked him whether he had read the Bible.<\/p>\n<p>He said he had responded, \u201cI will read the Bible and tell you what\u2019s wrong with the Bible&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jang said he read the New Testament and <!--more-->the Old Testament, finding inspiration in both, especially the Gospel of John and the Apostle Paul\u2019s writings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy grace, God chose me,\u201d Jang said of his increasing spirituality, and then added, \u201cIt was a mystery, in many ways.
