{"id":284,"date":"2009-01-14T05:57:57","date_gmt":"2009-01-14T09:57:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=284"},"modified":"2009-11-21T21:33:00","modified_gmt":"2009-11-22T05:33:00","slug":"president-proclaims-religious-freedom-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/14\/president-proclaims-religious-freedom-day\/","title":{"rendered":"President Proclaims &#8220;Religious Freedom Day&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Bush has made the annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/news\/releases\/2009\/01\/20090113-8.html\">proclamation<\/a> of &#8220;Religious Freedom Day&#8221; for 16 January 2009.\u00a0 As noted in his proclamation, it is a recognition of the 1786 Virginia Statute\u00a0for Religious Freedom, written by Thomas Jefferson and passed\u00a0on January 16th, 1786.\u00a0 Notably, this was before the Constitution (signed in 1787), of which Jefferson had no part, and the Bill of Rights (passed in 1789), of which Jefferson was one of the leading proponents.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, the President also notes<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Freedom is not a grant of government or a right for Americans alone; it is the birthright of every man, woman, and child throughout the world.
