{"id":27684,"date":"2013-12-26T03:23:34","date_gmt":"2013-12-26T06:23:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=27684"},"modified":"2016-11-26T00:04:56","modified_gmt":"2016-11-26T03:04:56","slug":"ndaa-religious-liberty-language-a-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/12\/26\/ndaa-religious-liberty-language-a-win\/","title":{"rendered":"NDAA Religious Liberty Language &#8220;a Win&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Update<\/strong><\/span>: Retired Chaplain (Col) Ron Crews of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty <a href=\"http:\/\/www.onenewsnow.com\/national-security\/2013\/12\/31\/retired-chaplain-says-military-bill-improves-religious-freedom\">was similarly &#8220;grateful&#8221;<\/a> that President Obama signed this &#8220;improve[d] religious liberty provision&#8221; into law.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Family Research Council <a href=\"http:\/\/frcblog.com\/2013\/12\/win-conscience-rights-military\/\">released a statement<\/a> regarding the <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/12\/17\/2014-ndaa-strengthens-religious-liberty-raises-mikey-weinstein-concerns\/\">2014 National Defense Authorization Act<\/a> which has passed the Senate and gone to President Obama for his signature. In short, the FRC was pleased to see a strengthening in specific liberty language.<\/p>\n<p>Noting last year&#8217;s version of the language, the FRC said the [emphasis added]<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>DOD has refused to issue the implementing regulations required by that law&#8230;Moreover, military branches such as the Air Force have <strong>interpreted the law<\/strong> very narrowly to <strong>apply only to a service member\u2019s ability to <em>hold<\/em> a belief, not to <em>practice or express<\/em> that belief<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>That truncated view of religious liberty has <!--more-->resulted in protections for a service member to attend a house of worship but no clear protections for a service member to apply the teachings of that house of worship to their daily life.
