{"id":276,"date":"2009-01-01T06:11:39","date_gmt":"2009-01-01T13:11:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=276"},"modified":"2009-11-21T21:33:01","modified_gmt":"2009-11-22T05:33:01","slug":"happy-new-year-2009","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/01\/happy-new-year-2009\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy New Year, 2009"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amazingly, little has changed over the past year (in fact, two years)\u00a0with regard to religion in the military.\u00a0 No lawsuits have gone on to litigation, Congress has yet to address the controversy as they <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=56\">promised<\/a> in 2006, and though many controversies have made the press, few have had any noticeable impact on military operations.\u00a0 That may help explain why military religious issues have fallen off the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/religionclause.blogspot.com\/2008\/12\/top-10-church-state-free-exercise.html\">Top Ten<\/a>&#8221; lists of church\/state and free exercise pundits (including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/specials\/2008\/top10\/article\/0,30583,1855948_1855958,00.html\">Time<\/a>).\u00a0 (By contrast, &#8220;Religion and the Military&#8221; featured prominently in 2006, even making the &#8220;#1&#8221; in some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bjconline.org\/cgi-bin\/2006\/12\/top_ten_religious_liberty_stor.html\">places<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>This year does have a unique potential, however, as President-elect Obama may bring a different perspective on both the use of the military and its internal governance.\u00a0 Already, some are wondering what impact his administration will have on Christians&#8217;
