{"id":26997,"date":"2013-11-22T00:54:03","date_gmt":"2013-11-22T03:54:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=26997"},"modified":"2016-11-26T00:19:58","modified_gmt":"2016-11-26T03:19:58","slug":"us-constitution-compels-military-chaplaincy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/22\/us-constitution-compels-military-chaplaincy\/","title":{"rendered":"US Constitution Compels Military Chaplaincy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.becketfund.org\/author\/danielblomberg\/\">Daniel Blomberg<\/a> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.becketfund.org\/\">Becket Fund for Religious Liberty<\/a> wrote an interesting article at the beginning of the month entitled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.becketfund.org\/constitution-demands-government-paid-priests-imams-pastors-rabbis\/\">Why the Constitution Demands Government-Paid Priests, Imams, Pastors, and Rabbis<\/a>.&#8221; He concisely addresses both the need not only for the chaplaincy itself, but also very specific religious faith leaders within that chaplaincy:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines have unique religious needs because the government can snatch them away from their religious communities at a moment\u2019s notice and for indefinite periods&#8230;Indeed, \u201c[u]nless the [military] provided a chaplaincy, it would deprive the [service member] of his right under the Establishment Clause not to have religion inhibited and of his right under the Free Exercise Clause to practice his freely chosen religion.\u201d <em>Katcoff v.
