{"id":26792,"date":"2013-11-15T01:27:58","date_gmt":"2013-11-15T04:27:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=26792"},"modified":"2016-11-26T00:23:39","modified_gmt":"2016-11-26T03:23:39","slug":"moore-preach-gospel-promote-freedom-but-warns-chaplains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/15\/moore-preach-gospel-promote-freedom-but-warns-chaplains\/","title":{"rendered":"Moore: Preach Gospel, Promote Freedom, but Warns Chaplains"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President of the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission Russell Moore recently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bpnews.net\/bpnews.asp?id=41412\">spoke to the New Orleans Seminary<\/a> and said Christians should advocate for the Gospel &#8212; <em>and<\/em> religious freedom:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The apostle Paul provides a model for how pastors and other Christians are to maintain &#8220;the centrality of the Gospel and the defense of religious liberty at the same time,&#8221; Moore told the seminarians.<\/p>\n<p>Preaching from Acts 26:24-32, Moore said Paul both defended his religious freedom and proclaimed the Gospel&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Paul here understands that freedom itself is not enough,&#8221; Moore said. The freedom Paul sought &#8212; and Christians today should seek &#8212; &#8220;is a freedom to do something &#8230; the pushing and the pressing and the pleading of the Gospel,&#8221; he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While some have advocated for Christians to abandon the political realm &#8212; an attitude of which Moore was even accused &#8212; Moore clearly says Christians\u00a0have a duty to advocate for religious liberty.<\/p>\n<p>Moore also had words of warning for military chaplains:\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Moore told future chaplains in the audience they would be &#8220;on the front lines of these sorts of questions.&#8221; The ERLC has worked with the North American Mission Board, which commissions Southern Baptist chaplains, in the effort to defend the freedom of military chaplains&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Chaplains will be told to pray generic prayers, not ones in Jesus&#8217; name, Moore said.
