{"id":25775,"date":"2013-12-16T02:02:12","date_gmt":"2013-12-16T05:02:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=25775"},"modified":"2016-11-26T00:13:01","modified_gmt":"2016-11-26T03:13:01","slug":"a-private-act-sends-a-public-message","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/12\/16\/a-private-act-sends-a-public-message\/","title":{"rendered":"A Private Act Sends a Public Message"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some have recently expressed heartburn over Baptist, Catholic, and other Christian US military chaplains being <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/09\/16\/air-force-issues-guidance-on-chaplains-homosexuals\/\">told not take part in any event or ceremony<\/a> where a possible acceptance of homosexuality might <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/23\/chaplain-who-watched-homosexual-ceremony-leaves-baptists\/\">be construed<\/a>.\u00a0 In that light, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.albertmohler.com\/2013\/10\/01\/george-and-barbara-witness-a-wedding-when-a-private-act-sends-a-public-message\/\">Rev (Dr) Al Mohler had an interesting commentary<\/a> on the recent decision by former President George H.W. Bush and his wife to attend such a ceremony &#8212; and the very public impact of that simple &#8220;private&#8221; event:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>According to <em>The Washington Post<\/em>, the elder Bushes attended the wedding of Bonnie Clement and Helen Thorgalsen, held at Kennebunkport, Maine&#8230;The 41st President of the United States was present, along with the former First Lady&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>No one should be surprised by the <!--more-->opening line of the report in The Washington Post: \u201cAnother prominent Republican has come out in support of same-sex marriage\u2014or, at least, in support of one particular same-sex marriage.\u201d Similarly, the \u201cDaily Intelligencer\u201d column at New York Magazine declared that George and Barbara Bush are apparently in favor of same-sex marriage \u201csince they not only attended a lesbian couple\u2019s wedding on Saturday, but served as witnesses as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The news coverage of the Bushes\u2019 attendance at the same-sex wedding points to a reality that must be understood\u2014and fast.
