{"id":25303,"date":"2013-09-18T00:30:08","date_gmt":"2013-09-18T03:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=25303"},"modified":"2016-11-26T00:45:13","modified_gmt":"2016-11-26T03:45:13","slug":"weinstein-praises-generals-metamorphosis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/09\/18\/weinstein-praises-generals-metamorphosis\/","title":{"rendered":"Weinstein Praises General&#8217;s &#8220;Metamorphosis&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/08\/weinstein-admits-error-endorses-caslen-for-west-point-supe\/\">previously noted<\/a>, Michael Weinstein had suddenly softened his tone on LtGen Robert Caslen when he found out Caslen was slated to lead the US Military Academy at West Point.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>During Gen Caslen\u2019s involvement in the <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2007\/09\/02\/analysis-of-the-pentagon-ig-report-on-christian-embassy\/\">Christian Embassy controversy<\/a> in 2006, Weinstein said those involved in the scandal were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/2006\/12\/13\/weinstein_3\/\">equivalent to al Qaida<\/a>, Iraqi militant Muqtada al Sadr, and deserved to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=6610025\">be court-martialed<\/a>.\u00a0 Two years later, Weinstein essentially <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2008\/05\/02\/weinstein-blasts-commandants-assignment\/\">accused Gen Caslen of fomenting insurrection<\/a> at the hands of a Christian army, and said the Army was promoting \u201cfundamentalist Christianity\u201d by promoting Gen Caslen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Weinstein&#8217;s self-serving &#8220;about face&#8221; has already been discussed.\u00a0 What is interesting <em>this<\/em> time is Weinstein&#8217;s continuation of the faux praise for the General&#8217;s\u00a0&#8220;metamorphosis&#8221;\u00a0&#8212; while he cites absolutely no reason <em>for<\/em> or characteristic <em>of<\/em> LtGen Caslen&#8217;s alleged &#8216;reversal.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>After first reminding people the MRFF once accused General Caslen of &#8220;sedition&#8221; &#8212; a criminal accusation for which he does not apologize &#8212;\u00a0Weinstein then says:\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Caslen, however, has remarkably proven himself to be a very special soldier of an entirely different breed&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Weinstein then brags on the &#8220;one hour and 45 minute meeting&#8221; he had in Caslen&#8217;s &#8220;well-appointed office&#8221; and claims [emphasis added]:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>His totally unforeseen <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>transformation<\/strong><\/span> from a <strong>militant, dogmatic evangelical Christian fundamentalist<\/strong> into an exemplary illustration of <strong>professionalism tempered by Constitutional compliance<\/strong> was surely an organic and painful process, one borne of excruciating, gut-wrenching introspection, self-examination, and auto-criticism&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Note that nowhere does Weinstein cite an actual <em>change<\/em> in Gen Caslen &#8212; Weinstein only cites his own change of <em>opinion<\/em>.\u00a0 Weinstein&#8217;s baseless characterization &#8212;\u00a0that Caslen\u00a0has gone through a &#8220;metamorphosis&#8221; and is\u00a0<em>now<\/em> a &#8220;good&#8221; Christian (by <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/03\/05\/weinstein-defines-religions-assigns-followers\/\">Weinstein&#8217;s definition<\/a>) &#8212; is actually a silent indictment against <em>himself<\/em>:\u00a0 LtGen Caslen didn&#8217;t change &#8212; he was <em>always<\/em> an &#8220;exemplary illustration of professionalism.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Weinstein &#8212; self-proclaimed defender of religious liberty &#8212; was just too blinded by hatred of General Caslen&#8217;s religious faith\u00a0to see it.<\/p>\n<p>Now that LtGen Caslen has been recognized for his military leadership and promoted and confirmed by the US Senate &#8212; twice &#8212; Weinstein has simply decided to &#8220;join&#8221; what he cannot beat.<\/p>\n<p>As an aside, it is interesting to note the Associated Press (and thus all who repeated their work) referred to Weinstein not as a &#8216;civil rights activist,&#8217;
