{"id":253,"date":"2008-11-13T15:26:04","date_gmt":"2008-11-13T22:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=253"},"modified":"2015-06-27T19:16:53","modified_gmt":"2015-06-27T22:16:53","slug":"military-non-theists-call-for-protective-regulations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2008\/11\/13\/military-non-theists-call-for-protective-regulations\/","title":{"rendered":"Military Non-Theists want Protective Regs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UPDATED 14 November 2008\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When they say &#8216;there are no atheists in foxholes&#8217; it\u2019s slanderous&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As noted at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stripes.com\/article.asp?section=104&amp;article=58763\">Stars and Stripes<\/a>, the Secular Coalition for America held a news conference demanding new regulations to &#8220;protect young military members from&#8230;rampant religious discrimination in the services.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.secular.org\/news\/Obama_military_accommodation.html\">press release<\/a>, the Secular Coalition notes that one atheist military officer was &#8220;thwarted&#8221; in his attempt to lodge a complaint against a General officer who &#8220;opined that there were &#8216;no atheists in foxholes.'&#8221;\u00a0 The officer &#8220;contends this statement qualifies as unlawful discrimination under current Army regulations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As with some other complaints of religious issues in the military, the Coalition maintains that the perpetrators are <!--more-->a &#8220;minority of some evangelical Christians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Organizations like the Officers Christian Fellowship (OFC) [<em>sic]<\/em>, The Military Ministry of the Campus Crusade for Christ, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and the Christian Military Fellowship (CMF) <em>encourage soldiers to proselytize as their primary mission in the military<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The complaint also inaccurately stated that<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>MG Robert Caslen was recently reprimanded for inappropriately promoting religion through his participation in the Christian Embassy video.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In fact, the Inspector General specifically said the investigation had nothing to do with religion (see previous <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=116\">analysis<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>It also\u00a0said \u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>assignments and promotions based on religious membership rather than merit have occurred<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>and cited, as evidence, the unsubstantiated accusations of the never-litigated and now-dismissed lawsuit of <em>Hall v.
