{"id":247,"date":"2008-10-25T10:45:30","date_gmt":"2008-10-25T14:45:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=247"},"modified":"2009-11-21T21:17:07","modified_gmt":"2009-11-22T05:17:07","slug":"two-thirds-of-af-pilots-accept-bonus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/25\/two-thirds-of-af-pilots-accept-bonus\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Thirds of AF Pilots Accept Bonus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Currently, Air Force offers bonuses of $125,000 to Air Force pilots who commit to stay on active duty for five years beyond their active duty service commitment.\u00a0 The Air Force Times <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2008\/10\/airforce_pilot_retentionbonus_102108w\/\">reports<\/a> that 68% of eligible pilots accepted it, above the 66% goal.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, the numbers for fighter airframes were low.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>F-22 &#8211; 43%<\/li>\n<li>F-16 &#8211; 51%<\/li>\n<li>F-15C &#8211; 68%<\/li>\n<li>A-10 &#8211; 53%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By contrast, the F-15E community had an 81% acceptance rate, and <em>all<\/em> other airframes, including heavies and helos, were above 68%.<\/p>\n<p>By and large, the reasons cited <!--more-->for the decision on the bonus are generally personal.\u00a0 They include time away from family, the degree to which the pilot feels like his job is rewarding, and the lifestyle.\u00a0 While the bonus was once used to keep pilots who were enticed by high paying airline jobs, it seems it now serves to try to keep pilots from abandoning careers with which they may be somewhat dissatisfied.<\/p>\n<p>One thing the numbers do not reflect is those pilots who were already committed beyond their initial training requirement.\u00a0 For example, pilots who graduated from a weapons school, or those who used tuition assistance, may have already been required to serve additional time.\u00a0 Thus, the bonus for them would simply be money for time already required.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Currently, Air Force offers bonuses of $125,000 to Air Force pilots who commit to stay on active duty for five years beyond their active duty service commitment.\u00a0 The Air Force Times reports that 68% of eligible pilots accepted it, above the 66% goal.
