{"id":241,"date":"2008-10-09T20:25:06","date_gmt":"2008-10-10T00:25:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=241"},"modified":"2015-06-27T19:16:55","modified_gmt":"2015-06-27T22:16:55","slug":"updated-jewish-trainees-complaints-of-discrimination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/09\/updated-jewish-trainees-complaints-of-discrimination\/","title":{"rendered":"UPDATED: Jewish Trainee&#8217;s Complaints of Discrimination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Atlanta Journal-Constitution carries an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/content\/metro\/stories\/2008\/10\/05\/soldier_1006_web.html\">article<\/a> on the recent complaint of a Jewish Army trainee regarding religious discrimination (see previous <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=239\">discussion<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The AJC notes that there were three &#8220;offenses&#8221;:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The trainee was told to remove his yarmulke.\u00a0 As previously <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=239\">discussed<\/a>, the drill sergeant was incorrect<!--more-->\u00a0in telling him to do so.<\/li>\n<li>The trainee was not allowed to pray while on guard duty.\u00a0 The Army noted that <em>no<\/em> soldier is allowed to pray while on guard duty (at least not in a formal fashion).<\/li>\n<li>A drill sergeant with previous time in Germany referred to the trainee with the German <em>Juden<\/em>, which has been described as perjorative.\u00a0 An Army spokesman said the sergeant did not know that it was perjorative, but that such ignorance was no excuse.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The article also notes that the unit did not hear about the complaints until it received a letter from a Congressman.<\/p>\n<p>A local Jewish leader, who is also a retired Navy O-6, said<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There\u2019s not this great conspiracy out there\u2026and the Army is absolutely behind rectifying any issues that need to be resolved&#8230;These drill sergeants had not set out to be anti-Semitic or discriminatory. They just screwed up, and the Army has dealt with it appropriately.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The retired Navy Captain\u00a0&#8220;runs a Jewish religious program in Columbus that attracts about 300 soldiers every week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It was interesting to note the absence of any reference to the MRFF, which had claimed that the trainee had been called a &#8220;kike&#8221; and &#8220;[expletive] Jew.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Atlanta Journal-Constitution carries an article on the recent complaint of a Jewish Army trainee regarding religious discrimination (see previous discussion).
