{"id":24048,"date":"2013-07-15T08:04:26","date_gmt":"2013-07-15T11:04:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=24048"},"modified":"2016-11-26T01:14:48","modified_gmt":"2016-11-26T04:14:48","slug":"congressman-explains-military-religious-freedom-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/15\/congressman-explains-military-religious-freedom-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"Congressman Explains Military Religious Freedom Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/video.foxnews.com\/v\/2543537486001\/rep-john-fleming-fighting-for-faith-in-the-us-military\/?playlist_id=928378949001\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/images\/fleming.jpg\" width=\"435\" height=\"156\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On <a href=\"http:\/\/video.foxnews.com\/v\/2543537486001\/rep-john-fleming-fighting-for-faith-in-the-us-military\/?playlist_id=928378949001\">FoxNews (video)<\/a>, US Rep John Fleming (R-La) said the NDAA clause the House passed and the Senate cleared through the Armed Services committee says that:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;military members are fully entitled to express their faith, as long as it is within certain confines, which would be military readiness, good order and discipline, military necessity, and of course without any coercion to others, and for some reason, the [Obama] administration has been against that.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>That&#8217;s<\/em> what Michael Weinstein calls a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MikeyMRFF\/posts\/10151787285763410\">nasty amendment<\/a>&#8221; that is a &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/10\/congressmen-advocates-call-for-military-religious-freedom\/\">license to kill<\/a>?&#8221;\u00a0 On its face, it is a preeminent and explicit <!--more-->protection of constitutional liberty.\u00a0 If &#8220;religious liberty&#8221; is one&#8217;s objective, one should clearly <em>support<\/em> such legislation that broadly protects the liberty of <em>all<\/em> faiths. Then again, if you believe, as Michael Weinstein does, that only\u00a0<em>certain<\/em> religious beliefs (the &#8220;right&#8221; kind, by his definitions) are\u00a0worthy of religious liberty, then you might oppose this legislation.\u00a0 While your opposition might negatively impact all\u00a0religious liberty in the US military, at least you might be able to\u00a0prevent the &#8220;wrong&#8221; religions from being expressed by US troops.
