{"id":23982,"date":"2013-07-11T00:34:54","date_gmt":"2013-07-11T03:34:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=23982"},"modified":"2016-11-26T01:16:00","modified_gmt":"2016-11-26T04:16:00","slug":"media-navy-wrongly-play-up-historic-x-47-carrier-landing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/11\/media-navy-wrongly-play-up-historic-x-47-carrier-landing\/","title":{"rendered":"Media, Navy Wrongly Play up &#8220;Historic&#8221; X-47 Carrier Landing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cPaH8CCtRVU\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/center><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stripes.com\/news\/us\/navy-drone-x-47b-lands-on-carrier-deck-in-historic-first-1.229786\">Media organizations<\/a> were aflutter yesterday because of the Navy&#8217;s unmanned demonstrator, the X-47B:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For the first time ever, a fighter jet-sized drone piloted entirely by computer landed on a modern <!--more-->aircraft carrier.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/technology\/x-47b-navy-drone-completes-first-ever-unmanned-carrier-landing-6C10591335\">Alternatively<\/a>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The X-47B drone made history Wednesday as the first robot to land itself on the moving flight deck of an aircraft carrier at sea&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Multiple sites dramatically reported on this &#8220;historic&#8221; event.\u00a0 They were almost all <em>wrong<\/em>.\u00a0 The X-47 landed on a carrier deck <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/05\/22\/uav-does-touch-and-go-on-carrier\/\"><em>months<\/em> ago<\/a>.\u00a0 To be fair, though, the US Navy&#8217;s <em>own <a href=\"http:\/\/www.navy.mil\/submit\/display.asp?story_id=75298\">press release<\/a><\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.navy.mil\/submit\/display.asp?story_id=75298\"> was wrong<\/a>, calling\u00a0it<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>the first time a tailless, unmanned autonomous aircraft landed on a modern aircraft carrier.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But in May,\u00a0Navy Captain Brian E. Luther of the USS <em>George H.W.
