{"id":23600,"date":"2013-06-28T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-06-28T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=23600"},"modified":"2016-11-26T01:22:49","modified_gmt":"2016-11-26T04:22:49","slug":"dod-celebrates-scotus-ruling-on-homosexuality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/28\/dod-celebrates-scotus-ruling-on-homosexuality\/","title":{"rendered":"DoD Celebrates SCOTUS Ruling on Homosexuality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Defense issued a plethora of statements celebrating the Supreme Court ruling that invalidated a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/article\/20130626\/NEWS05\/306230016\">portion of the Defense of Marriage Act<\/a> (DOMA) which had prevented the Federal government from recognizing homosexual &#8220;marriage.&#8221;\u00a0 The ruling paves the way for the US military to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csmonitor.com\/USA\/Military\/2013\/0626\/DOMA-Military-spouses-to-see-benefits-as-soon-as-possible-Hagel-vows\">provide marital benefits<\/a> to homosexual couples.<\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defense.gov\/\/releases\/release.aspx?releaseid=16119\">initial statement<\/a>, the DoD &#8220;welcomed&#8221; the ruling and said\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The department will immediately begin the process of implementing the Supreme Court&#8217;s decision&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>By contrast, members of Congress indicated the DoD has <em>yet<\/em> to promulgate regulations enacting Section 533 of the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act, which passed last year.<\/p>\n<p>The Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.alliancealert.org\/2013\/06\/26\/chaplain-endorsers-doma-decision-reinforces-need-for-conscience-protection-language-recently-passed-by-the-house-of-representatives\/\">expressed disappointment<\/a>&#8221; at the ruling and called on Congress to pass the religious liberty protections currently attached to the 2014 National Defense Authorization Act.<\/p>\n<p>Former President Clinton, who signed DOMA into law, likewise <a href=\"http:\/\/nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com\/_news\/2013\/06\/26\/19156331-clintons-hail-doma-ruling\">celebrated its demise<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;By overturning the Defense of Marriage Act, the Court recognized that discrimination towards any group holds us all back in our efforts to form a more perfect union,&#8221; said the former president in a joint statement with his wife, the former secretary of state and possible 2016 presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Note that the Clintons said <em>any<\/em> group.<\/p>\n<p>The military had already <a href=\"http:\/\/www.navy.mil\/submit\/display.asp?story_id=74593\">begun &#8220;training&#8221; for granting benefits<\/a> to homosexual couples.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-like\" data-share=\"true\" data-show-faces=\"true\" data-size=\"small\" data-action=\"like\" data-layout=\"standard\"><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><strong>ADVERTISEMENT<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><!-- blogpost --><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-ad-slot=\"2728423835\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6450825356098669\"><\/ins><script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/script><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Defense issued a plethora of statements celebrating the Supreme Court ruling that invalidated a portion of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which had prevented the Federal government from recognizing homosexual &#8220;marriage.&#8221;\u00a0 The ruling paves the way for the US military to provide marital benefits to homosexual couples.
