Though it carries many exceptions, North Dakota recently passed a law that is so restrictive on abortion it\u00a0in some regards essentially bans it<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Gov. Jack Dalrymple…signed into law…<\/p>\n

— The earliest state abortion ban, one based on an unborn child’s heartbeat, which could be as soon as six weeks into gestation;<\/p>\n

— The first state law to prohibit abortion on the basis of a genetic irregularity in the unborn baby.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That second note is specifically aimed at incidents like Down Syndrome, with some statistics suggesting more than 90% of all Down Syndrome predictions result in abortion.\u00a0 Down Syndrome is a completely viable genetic condition, as are many ‘undesirable’ genetic or physical characteristics.<\/p>\n

Perhaps one day all such innocents will have justice.\u00a0 In the meantime, North Dakota seems to be doing what it can.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, legislation would allow military facilities<\/a> to perform privately-funded abortions, and a family sued their abortion clinic<\/a> for a failed abortion attempt that the (healthy) child survived.<\/p>\n

That’s the moral state of the world we live in.<\/p>\n
