{"id":21567,"date":"2013-02-25T02:42:58","date_gmt":"2013-02-25T05:42:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=21567"},"modified":"2017-01-25T02:19:33","modified_gmt":"2017-01-25T05:19:33","slug":"homosexual-advocate-to-lead-senate-armed-services-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/25\/homosexual-advocate-to-lead-senate-armed-services-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"Homosexual Advocate to Lead Senate Armed Services Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) is now the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2013\/02\/military-kirsten-gillibrand-picked-head-sasc-personnel-panel-021913\/\">chair for the Senate Armed Services Committee<\/a>, the panel that handles military personnel and administrative matters.\u00a0 Gillibrand&#8217;s reputation is one of advocacy for homosexuals: <!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Gillibrand&#8230;was one of the senators pushing hardest for repeal of the old Clinton-era \u201cdon\u2019t ask, don\u2019t tell\u2019 policy that restricted service by homosexuals.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She also recently sponsored a military benefits bill for homosexuals, requiring the military to treat homosexual &#8220;marriages&#8221; the same as heterosexual ones:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Gillibrand&#8230;introduced a [bill] named for a New Hampshire Army National Guard member, Chief Warrant Officer Karen \u201cCharlie\u201d Morgan, who died Feb. 10 of breast cancer. Morgan left a wife, Karen, who is not eligible for survivor benefits as would the surviving spouse of a male soldier&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Gillibrand said, \u201cSame-sex partners of military service members should not be denied essential benefits because of who they are. We must ensure that all of our military families who have sacrificed so much have access to the services and treatment they need and deserve.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It is unclear why the bill declines to advocate for polygamous or incestuous marriages, who are likewise denied benefits because of \u201cwho they are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gillibrand&#8217;s committee chair comes as the US military has already stated its intent to grant such benefits &#8212; as soon as it stops being illegal.\u00a0 Gillibrand&#8217;s act would presumably repeal the Defense of Marriage Act &#8212; which means it is unlikely to pass the US House.\u00a0 The House is defending DOMA in court.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, while Secretary Eric Shineski has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/2013\/02\/ap-va-same-sex-burial-breaks-from-past-021513\/\">granted an exception for\u00a0a homosexual<\/a> regarding burial, Catholic Archbishop Timothy Broglio wondered out loud if the Department of Defense was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2013\/02\/military-catholic-archbishops-same-sex-benefits-021913w\/\">already acting contrary to the law<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;This new policy under the guise of \u2018equal benefits\u2019 undermines marriage as the union of one man and one woman because it treats two persons of the same sex as spouses,\u201d said Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio of the Archdiocese for the Military Services&#8230;\u201cCan the Secretary of Defense establish a policy that undermines federal law as established by [the Defense of Marriage Act]?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Broglio gave an example of the impact of the governmental acceptance of homosexuality on religious liberty, using the position of a JAG:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Could a JAG officer choose, out of religious or moral convictions, not to give legal advice on marital and family issues to same-sex \u2018partners\u2019 without being subject to discipline?
