{"id":21523,"date":"2013-02-15T01:16:24","date_gmt":"2013-02-15T04:16:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=21523"},"modified":"2016-11-26T01:51:37","modified_gmt":"2016-11-26T04:51:37","slug":"army-starts-recoupment-action-against-atheist-former-cadet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/15\/army-starts-recoupment-action-against-atheist-former-cadet\/","title":{"rendered":"Army Starts Recoupment Action against Atheist Former Cadet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to NBC News, the US Army is starting the process to recoup the cost of atheist former <a href=\"http:\/\/usnews.nbcnews.com\/_news\/2013\/02\/14\/16966278-army-wants-outspoken-west-point-cadet-to-pay-up\">Cadet Blake Page&#8217;s West Point education<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In a memorandum dated Dec. 12, the superintendent of West Point Academy, Lt. Gen. David Huntoon, did recommend to Army headquarters that Page be honorably discharged and that recoupment \u2014 in the form of money or service as an enlisted soldier \u2014 be waived.<\/p>\n<p>The response, signed by Thomas R. Lamont, assistant Army secretary, approves Page for an honorable discharge, but disapproves the waivers. In the Jan. 28 memorandum, he orders the West Point superintendent &#8220;to conduct a recoupment investigation.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Army could demand up to $250,000 or order Page back to active duty, where he previously served enlisted before <!--more-->attending West Point.<\/p>\n<p>As noted in December, <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/06\/atheist-cadet-discharged-in-publicity-stunt-over-religion\/\">Page quit West Point<\/a> in an act he admitted was a publicity stunt &#8212; knowing full well recoupment was one possible outcome.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Weinstein, who originally helped shop Page&#8217;s story to the media, said of the Pentagon&#8217;s decision:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This may be the clearest example I\u2019ve ever seen of reprisal and retribution.\u00a0 It sends an extremely dangerous message to anyone who wants to stand for their constitutional rights.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Weinstein fails to say retribution for <em>what<\/em>.\u00a0 To the point, Page resigned <em>voluntarily<\/em>\u00a0and he admitted recoupment was one possible outcome of his decision.\u00a0\u00a0He even\u00a0used the potential magnitude as a sympathy line.\u00a0 To now say it was <em>never supposed to happen <\/em>undermines the original pity plea and ignores the key point:\u00a0 Cadets who resign after their second year are liable for recoupment, regardless of their politics.<\/p>\n<p>For <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/12\/weinstein-threatens-us-military-with-another-lawsuit\/\">the third time<\/a> in about a week, Weinstein made the empty threat of filing a lawsuit against the military.\u00a0 Because that&#8217;s what Weinstein does when he wants publicity but he&#8217;s out of ideas.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-like\" data-share=\"true\" data-show-faces=\"true\" data-size=\"small\" data-action=\"like\" data-layout=\"standard\"><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><strong>ADVERTISEMENT<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><!-- blogpost --><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-ad-slot=\"2728423835\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6450825356098669\"><\/ins><script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/script><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to NBC News, the US Army is starting the process to recoup the cost of atheist former Cadet Blake Page&#8217;s West Point education: In a memorandum dated Dec. 12, the superintendent of West Point Academy, Lt.
