{"id":21416,"date":"2013-02-11T02:25:12","date_gmt":"2013-02-11T05:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=21416"},"modified":"2016-11-26T01:52:27","modified_gmt":"2016-11-26T04:52:27","slug":"weinstein-threatens-us-military-with-yet-another-lawsuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/11\/weinstein-threatens-us-military-with-yet-another-lawsuit\/","title":{"rendered":"Weinstein Threatens US Military with Yet Another Lawsuit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Weinstein, frequent critic of religious freedom in the US military, has &#8220;threatened&#8221;\u00a0so many lawsuits that he&#8217;s long become the boy who cries wolf.\u00a0 (Besides, the &#8220;wolf,&#8221; in the case, has yet to survive the first Motion to Dismiss &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/10\/usafa-lawsuit-dismissed-weinstein-goes-0-for-4\/\">four times<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>The US Army has once again raised Weinstein&#8217;s ire by &#8212; shockingly enough &#8212; researching the ability to train chaplains the same way it trains other soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>Weinstein finally got around to commenting on a subject <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/01\/11\/army-chaplains-to-get-computerized-spiritual-training\/\">noted here a month ago<\/a>:\u00a0 The US Army is researching the ability to use simulations to train chaplains\u00a0for battlefield scenarios, much like it does for medical personnel.\u00a0 As noted at the time:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Chaplains [already] go through training on how to survive the bullets and explosions&#8230;This simulator&#8230;will give chaplains multiple opportunities to experience real-life scenarios and practice their ministry in a controlled environment.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Weinstein would <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/article\/20130207\/TSJ01\/302070015\/Training-Game-Army-Chaplains-May-Trigger-Lawsuit\">have none of it<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe are gong [<em>sic<\/em>] to put the pedal to the metal on something like this. If necessary, we will consider intervening in federal court,\u201d said Mikey Weinstein&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Laughably, even the otherwise-friendly article noted Weinstein&#8217;s vendetta <!--more-->against the military has nothing to do with his claim of &#8220;religious freedom&#8221; [emphasis added]:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[Weinstein is] a vociferous critic of what he sees as excessive influence and coercion in the U.S. military by fundamentalist <em>Christians<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While Weinstein frequently claims troops come running to him because they&#8217;re being persecuted, this is an example of the opposite:\u00a0\u00a0Weinstein has found something in the military with which he takes issue &#8212; and now he has to find someone in the military who agrees with him [emphasis added]:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Weinstein said he is already <em>searching for members<\/em> of the U.S. military who have legal standing for such a suit.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Weinstein once published an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/articles\/files\/mrffad.pdf\">ad looking for plaintiffs<\/a>.\u00a0 It seems he has many axes to grind, but few who want to hold the blade in his stead.<\/p>\n<p>Worse, Weinstein cites not a single objectionable fact in his &#8220;pedal to the metal&#8221; opposition to an Army research program.\u00a0 Instead, he returns to his familiar <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/21\/michael-weinstein-is-a-fan-predicts-christian-coup\/\">conspiracy theories<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Weinstein fears that a military chaplain training game will be a \u201cTrojan Horse to further the objectives of fundamentalist Christianity&#8230;\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Again, its all about Weinstein&#8217;s obsessive fear and loathing\u00a0of <em>Christians<\/em>.\u00a0 His attacks on the military have nothing to do with &#8220;religious freedom&#8221; &#8212; unless you count trying to <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/08\/13\/freedom-group-seeks-ban-on-religious-exercise-in-the-us-military\/\"><em>restrict <\/em>the religious freedom of Christians<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Whether a soldier wears a cross or an infantry badge, he needs to train for his mission.\u00a0 Many soldiers are already trained using the same medium. It seems Weinstein and his &#8220;charity&#8221; object to <em>chaplains <\/em>receiving training so they can better accomplish their mission: minister to wounded and dying troops in combat.\u00a0 That&#8217;s not a position likely to win him many allies.<\/p>\n<p>Whether the Army should be spending money on research for a training program or whether such a simulation would be viable is certainly a valid topic of debate.\u00a0 (In point of fact, Weinstein provided a &#8220;former chaplain&#8221; for critical comment, and that&#8217;s the only issue he mentioned.)\u00a0 For the record, though, the Secretary of the Army just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.army.mil\/article\/96053\/SecArmy_after_exploring_virtual__live_training_at_Fort_Sill__Training_cost_effective__crucial\/\">praised the value of simulation<\/a> as a money-saver in a fiscally constrained environment.<\/p>\n<p>However, to assert <em>training chaplains <\/em>is a doorway for any religious &#8220;objectives&#8221; is simply lunacy.<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s par for Weinstein&#8217;s course.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-like\" data-share=\"true\" data-show-faces=\"true\" data-size=\"small\" data-action=\"like\" data-layout=\"standard\"><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><strong>ADVERTISEMENT<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><!-- blogpost --><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-ad-slot=\"2728423835\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6450825356098669\"><\/ins><script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/script><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Weinstein, frequent critic of religious freedom in the US military, has &#8220;threatened&#8221;\u00a0so many lawsuits that he&#8217;s long become the boy who cries wolf.\u00a0 (Besides, the &#8220;wolf,&#8221; in the case, has yet to survive the first Motion to Dismiss &#8212; four times.)
