{"id":21060,"date":"2013-01-16T02:57:51","date_gmt":"2013-01-16T05:57:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=21060"},"modified":"2016-11-26T01:58:55","modified_gmt":"2016-11-26T04:58:55","slug":"us-army-chapel-christian-preschool-may-be-shuttered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/01\/16\/us-army-chapel-christian-preschool-may-be-shuttered\/","title":{"rendered":"US Army Chapel Christian Preschool May be Shuttered"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <em>Stars and Stripes <\/em>article describes a fairly unusual situation at the US Army Garrison\u00a0Yongsan in Seoul, South Korea, in which a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stripes.com\/news\/pacific\/korea\/some-yongsan-parents-could-be-scrambling-for-day-care-if-preschool-closes-1.203809\">Christian preschool is run by an Army chapel<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Garrison officials say a recent anonymous complaint prompted them to look at whether the Mustard Seed Preschool has been operating illegally <!--more-->since it opened in 1976. They have determined that the Army had the authority to establish a chapel-sponsored preschool but found no regulations explaining how to do so, according to Yongsan commander Col. Michael Masley.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In an interesting arrangement, &#8220;donations&#8221; are collected by the chapel and deposited into the Chapel Tithes and Offerings Fund.\u00a0 There isn&#8217;t technically a &#8220;cost&#8221; to the preschool.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, religion has nothing to do with the Army&#8217;s decision, and it&#8217;s not technically <em>illegal<\/em>.\u00a0 The problem isn&#8217;t that it violates regulations &#8212; it&#8217;s that there <em>aren&#8217;t any<\/em> regulations governing it.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe have no reason to believe that they\u2019ve done anything wrong or any reason to be concerned that they shouldn\u2019t be here watching our kids,\u201d Masley said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The primary concern of families is that local options are cost-prohibitive but could be the required\u00a0if the Mustard Seed preschool is suddenly closed.
