{"id":20668,"date":"2012-12-18T01:59:06","date_gmt":"2012-12-18T04:59:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=20668"},"modified":"2013-11-01T23:48:10","modified_gmt":"2013-11-02T02:48:10","slug":"congress-debates-military-religious-freedom-post-dadt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/18\/congress-debates-military-religious-freedom-post-dadt\/","title":{"rendered":"Congress Debates Military Religious Freedom Post-DADT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As noted at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bpnews.net\/BPnews.asp?ID=39377\">Baptist Press<\/a>, a Congressional conference committee is currently attempting to reconcile the House and Senate versions of the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act.\u00a0 One issue is a change that might allow the military to use funds or facilities for abortions.\u00a0 Another is whether or not military personnel will be explicitly protected in their moral and religious expressions regarding homosexuality.\u00a0 The Chaplain <!--more-->Alliance for Religious Liberty has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alliancealert.org\/2012\/12\/17\/chaplains-call-on-congress-to-protect-conscience-of-service-members\/\">called on Congress<\/a> to support the House-passed provisions on military religious liberty, while the White House reportedly &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/05\/18\/white-house-strongly-objects-to-religious-liberty-provisions\/\">strongly object[ed]<\/a>&#8221; to them.<\/p>\n<p>As noted <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/05\/09\/house-committee-to-debate-troops-religious-expression\/\">earlier this year<\/a>, the House passed a provision in the NDAA saying, as <a href=\"www.fas.org\/sgp\/crs\/natsec\/R42651.pdf\">summarized by the CRS<\/a>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Section 536 requires the Armed Forces to accommodate the moral principles and religious beliefs of service members concerning appropriate and inappropriate expression of human sexuality and that such beliefs may not be used as a basis for any adverse personnel actions.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Critics are on record saying any such <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/pelosi-slams-measure-to-protect-military-chaplains-from-being-forced-to-hol\/\">protections are unnecessary<\/a>, because <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/05\/25\/annapolis-mids-highlight-hostility-toward-opposing-homosexuality\/\">policies already protect troops&#8217;
