{"id":19713,"date":"2012-10-05T02:00:48","date_gmt":"2012-10-05T05:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=19713"},"modified":"2013-11-01T22:52:33","modified_gmt":"2013-11-02T01:52:33","slug":"usafa-reports-on-faculty-input-to-palm-center-dadt-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/10\/05\/usafa-reports-on-faculty-input-to-palm-center-dadt-report\/","title":{"rendered":"USAFA Reports on Faculty Input to Palm Center DADT Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Continuing <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/25\/us-military-downplays-impact-of-dadt-repeal\/\">the theme of publicizing the praises<\/a> of DADT repeal, the US Air Force Academy noted some of its professors contributed to <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/11\/first-post-dadt-study-says-30-of-troops-oppose-homosexual-service-but-no-negative-impact\/\">the Palm Center report<\/a>\u00a0&#8212; and they had nothing but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usafa.af.mil\/news\/story.asp?id=123319954\">good things to say<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Col. Gary Packard Jr., the Behavioral Sciences and Leadership Department head, and Dr. Steven Samuels, a professor in the same department, are two of four service academy instructors who contributed to the study, which found that repealing DADT had no effect <!--more-->on recruiting, retention or readiness&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Dave Levy, a professor with the Management Department, also contributed to the study.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(Levy is also co-authoring another article on &#8220;the rise and fall of DADT.&#8221;)\u00a0 The article bluntly states:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The available data soundly disproves statements by retired flag officers that repeal would &#8220;undermine recruiting and retention &#8230; and eventually break the all-volunteer force.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As previously noted in the discussion on the Palm Center report, the &#8220;available data&#8221; isn&#8217;t what people think it is.\u00a0 While it sounds &#8220;exhaustive,&#8221; it is little more than a few interviews and dated recruiting data.\u00a0 To say it &#8220;soundly&#8221; does anything beyond supporting the agenda of its authors is ludicrous.<\/p>\n<p>More interesting, however, was this quote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The study acknowledges that some people&#8217;s morale dropped because they don&#8217;t agree with the change but notes that the positive effect on morale of gay, lesbian and bisexual service members balanced it out.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The report doesn&#8217;t actually phrase it as &#8220;balancing out,&#8221; though it could be read that way.<\/p>\n<p>Who knew that granting amnesty to 2% could &#8220;balance out&#8221; the negative effect on the 30% who disagreed?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Continuing the theme of publicizing the praises of DADT repeal, the US Air Force Academy noted some of its professors contributed to the Palm Center report\u00a0&#8212; and they had nothing but good things to say.
