{"id":19034,"date":"2012-08-15T02:16:38","date_gmt":"2012-08-15T05:16:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=19034"},"modified":"2012-08-15T02:16:38","modified_gmt":"2012-08-15T05:16:38","slug":"american-atheists-belittle-us-declaration-of-independence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/15\/american-atheists-belittle-us-declaration-of-independence\/","title":{"rendered":"American Atheists Belittle US Declaration of Independence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s a word to describe being so irrationally in opposition to something you fail to see even\u00a0the obviously\u00a0noble or good.<\/p>\n<p>The activist organization American Atheists stepped in it recently when they <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/AmericanAtheists\/posts\/10151083073597418\">took to Facebook to\u00a0defend their newest billboards<\/a> that mock the religious beliefs of the presidential candidates:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We think the future of the United States is serious business, and its leadership should not be based upon the influences of religion in our political system. Take Rep. Paul Ryan&#8217;s comments, for example. Ryan stated, &#8220;Our rights come from nature and god, NOT from government.&#8221; Is this the type of leadership we need in our country?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>American Atheists were so quick to demean Rep Paul Ryan, a conservative Catholic, that they didn&#8217;t bother to recognize he was paraphrasing the US Declaration of Independence. American Atheists ended up denigrating <em>precisely <\/em>the &#8220;type of leadership&#8221; that <em>founded <\/em>the <!--more-->United States of America.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also the &#8220;type of leadership&#8221; currently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/the-press-office\/2012\/08\/10\/remarks-president-iftar-dinner\">expressed by President Obama<\/a>, who said this at the White House when he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/news\/obama-at-iftar-dinner-religious-freedom-is-foremost-freedom-79861\/\">hosted an Islamic <em>iftar<\/em><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Of all the freedoms we cherish as Americans, of all the rights that we hold sacred, foremost among them is freedom of religion, the right to worship as we choose.\u00a0 It\u2019s enshrined in the First Amendment of our Constitution &#8212; the law of the land, always and forever.\u00a0 It beats in our heart &#8212; in the soul of the people who know that our liberty and our equality is endowed by our Creator.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(Obama has previously been criticized for <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/03\/air-force-independence-day-message-skips-over-creator\/\">leaving out\u00a0&#8220;our Creator&#8221;<\/a> when citing the Declaration; in this case, he added it when talking about the Constitution.)<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, the American Atheists Facebook page is filled with comments even from their supporters criticizing their move.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, American Atheists is also a 501(c)3, which means they&#8217;re <em>not allowed <\/em>to oppose political candidates &#8212; yet they just did.\u00a0 Oops.<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s not the only step into &#8220;crazy&#8221; from American Atheists recently&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s a word to describe being so irrationally in opposition to something you fail to see even\u00a0the obviously\u00a0noble or good.
