President Obama declared June<\/a> to be “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month,” which purportedly\u00a0takes the opportunity\u00a0for the US government to “celebrate” sexual attraction to one’s own gender.\u00a0 Unlike some other proclamations called upon by Congress, the LGBT Pride proclamation was done independently by Obama as it was under Clinton, the last president to make such declarations.<\/p>\n

And because we must treat others the way we want to be treated, I personally believe in marriage equality for same-sex couples…More remains to be done to ensure every single American is treated equally, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Moving forward, my Administration will continue its work to advance the rights of LGBT Americans.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Bob Stith, of the Southern Baptist’s Task Force on Ministry to Homosexuals, said the Presidential proclamation continued a recent socially accepted theme:\u00a0 opposition to homosexuality is bigotry<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The fact that Obama is framing the legalization of gay marriage as one of ridding the country of prejudice does not bode well for traditional Christians, Stith said.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

“The words the president uses in his drive to normalize homosexuality clearly portray any who disagree with him as prejudiced bigots. Those who agree are loving and brave,” Stith said. “The danger here is that those who dare to seek to protect the definition of marriage which has stood unchallenged for thousands of years are themselves the victims of prejudice and hate. Unfortunately, this proclamation shows no interest in preventing this kind of bigotry. Rather it is another example that if something is repeated often enough it will be accepted as truth even if the evidence doesn’t support it.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It’s interesting when you consider that homosexuals make up around 2-3% of the population, while those who oppose homosexual marriage are around 50%, depending on what poll you look at.\u00a0 In essence, Stith says the proclamation paints half of America as bigots to appease advocates of the sexual behavior of a substantial minority.<\/p>\n

Regardless, Stith’s observation is ominous:\u00a0 the President of the United States is making advocates of the traditional definition of marriage, who are largely religious groups, out to be adversaries to be fought.\u00a0 Of course, that’s a contention many religious freedom critics and homosexual advocates have already made.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
