PFC Naser Abdo, the Islamic US Soldier turned conscientious objector turned bomb plotter, has been convicted<\/a> of attempting to bomb a local Fort Hood restaurant and kill his fellow soldiers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A federal jury Thursday convicted Abdo, a Muslim soldier, on six charges in connection with his failed plot to blow up a Texas restaurant full of Fort Hood troops, his religious mission to get “justice” for the people of Iraq and Afghanistan.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

His confessed motivation<\/a>?\u00a0 Religion.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

A recorded jailhouse conversation showed his incredulous mother asking whether he was set up. \u201cIt\u2019s all true, mom,\u201d Abdo said.

\n\u201cI can\u2019t wrap my head around this; there must be a reason,\u201d his mother continued. \u201cThe reason is religion, mom, there is no other reason,\u201d Abdo responded.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Abdo’s defense attorneys had the unenviable task of trying to convince jurors<\/a> that saying you wanted to kill Americans with a bomb, and buying the materials<\/a> to make such a weapon, were not technically illegal acts.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Abdo’s attempted attack is one of 12 recent attacks or attempted attacks on the US military by people motivated by their Islamic faith.\u00a0 Of those 12, Abdo was one of four US military members to turn on his comrades.<\/p>\n

In an interesting comparison, Abdo has been convicted <\/em>after being arrested just\u00a0last summer.\u00a0 The person he emulated<\/a>, US Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, has yet to begin <\/em>his trial<\/a> for the Fort Hood massacre<\/a> that occurred nearly three years ago.<\/p>\n

Michael Weinstein, who claims to represent more than 10% of all Muslims in the US military, has remained uncharacteristically quiet<\/a> on the Abdo case, despite having had a personal conversation with him before his attempted bombing and claiming loudly that the Fort Hood massacre was the\u00a0result<\/a> of\u00a0Christianity in the US military<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
