{"id":17790,"date":"2012-05-17T00:30:30","date_gmt":"2012-05-17T03:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=17790"},"modified":"2012-05-14T23:18:24","modified_gmt":"2012-05-15T02:18:24","slug":"f-15c-sports-new-targeting-pod","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/05\/17\/f-15c-sports-new-targeting-pod\/","title":{"rendered":"F-15C Sports New Targeting Pod"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/aircraft.htm#F-15\">F-15C <\/a><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/aircraft.htm#F-15\">Eagle<\/a> <\/em>is an air-to-air fighter.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what it does, and that&#8217;s what its pilots love.\u00a0 In fact, saying the air-to-ground &#8220;b-word&#8221; (bomb) is even forbidden in the community (among other <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/fighterpilotspeak.htm\">linguistic games<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>That isn&#8217;t stopping the Eagles from trying out some of the air-to-ground toys.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Air Force Times <\/em>reports a National Guard F-15C unit has been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2012\/05\/air-force-f-15c-guard-pod-tracking-ability-051412w\/\">testing a Sniper pod<\/a>, an air-to-ground targeting pod, on its Eagles:\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For nearly a year, the Air National Guard has been flying and evaluating an F-15C with a Lockheed Martin Sniper targeting pod attached to its underbelly&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Adding a targeting pod could allow an F-15 pilot to visually track aircraft at greater distances and obtain information for that mission.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In essence, the pod would be a glorified long-lens camera, with a couple of neat features.<\/p>\n<p>Though they&#8217;re still being upgraded, the F-15C was supposed to be phased out and replaced by the F-22, though its future is less certain due to the reduced number of F-22s the Air Force ultimately purchased.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The F-15C Eagle is an air-to-air fighter.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what it does, and that&#8217;s what its pilots love.\u00a0 In fact, saying the air-to-ground &#8220;b-word&#8221; (bomb) is even forbidden in the community (among other linguistic games).
