{"id":175,"date":"2008-06-30T22:12:02","date_gmt":"2008-07-01T02:12:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=175"},"modified":"2011-03-23T22:53:03","modified_gmt":"2011-03-24T03:53:03","slug":"coming-soon-atheistfighterpilotcom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2008\/06\/30\/coming-soon-atheistfighterpilotcom\/","title":{"rendered":"Coming Soon: AtheistFighterPilot.com"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some who have visited ChristianFighterPilot.com have made accusations of exclusivism,\u00a0favoritism, and even violation of the Constitution for mixing &#8220;church and state.&#8221;\u00a0 At the extreme, conspiracy theorists have accused ChristianFighterPilot.com of being bent on world domination.\u00a0 After all, only Christians would have the gall to so publicly mix their military service and religious faith,\u00a0right?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Actually, Christians aren&#8217;t the only ones integrating their faith and their service, and others, too, have &#8220;exclusive&#8221; websites featuring their faiths.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>To mention but a few, the &#8220;American Muslim Armed Forces and Veteran Affairs Council&#8221; recently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amafandvac.org\/cms\/\">proposed<\/a> a highly controversial addition to the UCMJ.\u00a0\u00a0Another Muslim military <a href=\"http:\/\/www.muslimmilitarymembers.org\/\">site<\/a>\u00a0currently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.muslimmilitarymembers.org\/article.php?story=2008030718124148\">features<\/a> the recent death of an American\u00a0Muslim fighter pilot (and another entitled &#8220;Serving God and Country&#8221;).\u00a0 It notes that<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The [Muslim Military Members] is an organization providing information, communication, and coordination for Muslims in the US Armed Forces.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Several Jewish sites include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jwv.org\">Jewish War Veterans<\/a>, a large support organization that also lobbies the government on Jewish military affairs, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jewsingreen.com\/\">Jews in Green<\/a>, the founder of which says<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Being a Jew in the service presents some unique challenges.\u00a0 My hope is that by creating this website, other Jews serving in our armed forces can learn what resources are available for them, share their experiences with one another, and offer support when needed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Some of those sites aren&#8217;t that different (in\u00a0stated intent, at least) from that of\u00a0ChristianFighterPilot.com:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This site is intended to provide the military Christian with the information, resources, and support they need for living an active life of faith as a professional military officer.\u00a0 Read about relevant current events, opinions of the military Christian life, and mentor and encourage others.\u00a0 Find resources, support at military bases, and link to any variety of Christian sites across the web.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Not to be left out, there&#8217;s even an organization for military <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maaf.info\/\">atheists<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[The Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers] provides geographically dispersed service members with information, resources, and contacts. MAAF provides information about nontheistic services members to other organizations as well as the media.\u00a0 MAAF is a community support network that connects military members from around the world with each other and with local organizations.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite lawsuits to the contrary, the American military is an amazingly diverse and accepting place when it comes to religious beliefs (or the lack thereof).\u00a0 That diversity extends to the external organizations of faith (or non-faith) that seek to influence military members with their point of view.\u00a0 &#8220;Grassroot&#8221; support organizations are merely a natural result of the bonds shared among military members.\u00a0 Such desires are not limited to Christians.\u00a0 For example,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The [x] is a new program to recruit and train lay leaders to lead programs at every U.S. military base worldwide.
