The Pentagon IG is reportedly reviewing the Accident Investigation Board<\/a> from the November 2010 crash<\/a> that killed F-22 pilot Capt Jeffrey Haney in Alaska.\u00a0 The crash was attributed to pilot error<\/a>.<\/p>\n

An IG official wrote that the agency will “focus on the adherence of the AIB to the procedures set forth in Air Force Instruction (AFI) 51-503…<\/p>\n

“Our assessment will also verify that AIB conclusions are supported by evidence of record consistent with standards of proof established by AFI 51-503,” he wrote.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While some reports of the investigation last fall expressed skepticism that the Air Force blamed the “oxygen-deprived pilot<\/a>” for the crash, while not\u00a0explaining why <\/em>he was oxygen-deprived, the IG investigation was reportedly “routine” not called for by an outside source:<\/p>\n

Defense Department IG spokeswoman Bridget Ann Serchak said in an email to media outlets that the DoD Inspector General \u201cself-initiated\u201d the investigation…<\/p>\n

Gen. Norton Schwartz denied…the DoD investigation was anything but routine…<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

ABCNews notes Haney’s family and friends were extremely critical of the report<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Family and friends of Haney’s blasted the Air Force for its report on a Facebook memorial page for Haney, with one of the page’s administrators writing, “So by this logic, next the Army will say soldiers killed in action were in fact not killed but enemy gun fire [but] they died from a lack of blood volume and intact organs [and] were at fault for not seeking medical attention in a timely manner.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
