{"id":15453,"date":"2012-01-19T01:29:42","date_gmt":"2012-01-19T04:29:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=15453"},"modified":"2013-10-27T23:06:38","modified_gmt":"2013-10-28T02:06:38","slug":"army-professionalism-maintained-in-dadt-repeal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/01\/19\/army-professionalism-maintained-in-dadt-repeal\/","title":{"rendered":"Army: Professionalism Maintained in DADT Repeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In an article that actually says very little, the US Army notes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.army.mil\/article\/71791\/Soldiers__NCOs_maintain_professionalism_throughout_repeal_of__dont_ask__don_t_tell_\/\">nothing has really changed<\/a> since DADT repeal was implemented.\u00a0 Part of the reason is &#8220;many&#8221; homosexual servicemembers have continued to\u00a0keep their sexual preference to themselves.\u00a0 The only &#8220;change&#8221;\u00a0was the absence of their fear they would be discharged if discovered.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Many &#8220;out&#8221; gay and lesbian Soldiers say they haven&#8217;t noticed much change in Army culture since the repeal of &#8220;don&#8217;t ask, don&#8217;t tell&#8221; Sept. 20, and many still remain in the closet to those they serve with.<\/p>\n<p>For most, it has been a relief that they can no longer be prosecuted or their Army careers jeopardized for being gay.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One &#8220;out&#8221; Army NCO said the repeal resulted in a changing perception:\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>With the repeal of the &#8220;don&#8217;t ask, don&#8217;t tell&#8221; law, more Soldiers are starting to realize that sexuality doesn&#8217;t affect how a Soldier does a particular job, Terry said.\u00a0 &#8220;An individual&#8217;s sexuality doesn&#8217;t have anything to do with their service as a Soldier or with their job performance as a mechanic or admin specialist&#8230;&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course, that&#8217;s a canard.\u00a0 No mainstream opponent of repeal claimed a <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/03\/report-troops-who-support-dadt-can-find-another-job\/\">homosexual was incapable<\/a> of flying a jet, driving tank, shooting a gun, or anything else.\u00a0 Even the Sergeant Major of the Army noted, however, the repeal caused a &#8220;shift in culture&#8221; in the Army.\u00a0 The cultural change of the military &#8212; the official acceptance of an aberrant lifestyle choice &#8212; is significant.<\/p>\n<p>Another soldier noted &#8220;a lot&#8221; of people in the military want to see a return to DADT:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;There&#8217;s still a lot of people who want to see the policy put back in place,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And my take on that is, if we stay in the closet, and not let people see who we are and that we do exist, we&#8217;re giving them permission to do whatever they want with us.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Some, though not all, of the Republican presidential candidates have called for a return to the policy that prohibited homosexuals from serving in the US military.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In an article that actually says very little, the US Army notes nothing has really changed since DADT repeal was implemented.\u00a0 Part of the reason is &#8220;many&#8221; homosexual servicemembers have continued to\u00a0keep their sexual preference to themselves.\u00a0 The only &#8220;change&#8221;\u00a0was the absence of their fear they would be discharged if discovered.
