{"id":15435,"date":"2012-01-17T01:17:02","date_gmt":"2012-01-17T04:17:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=15435"},"modified":"2012-01-17T01:17:02","modified_gmt":"2012-01-17T04:17:02","slug":"usaf-to-provide-light-attack-aircraft-to-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2012\/01\/17\/usaf-to-provide-light-attack-aircraft-to-afghanistan\/","title":{"rendered":"USAF to Provide Light Attack Aircraft to Afghanistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The US Air Force recently awarded a contract to provide &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.af.mil\/news\/story.asp?id=123286333\">at least 20 A-29 Super Tucanos<\/a>&#8221; to Afghanistan.\u00a0 The light attack aircraft was competing with the Hawker Beechcraft AT-6, a modified version of the T-6 currently used by both the USAF and US Navy.\u00a0 The Air Force has also been <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/06\/at-6c-drops-laser-guided-bombs-in-arizona\/\">flying an AT-6<\/a> in Arizona in a &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/18\/new-light-attack-aircraft-wont-see-afghanistan\/\">non-acquisition program<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The deal was contracted with Sierra Nevada Corp, though the Super Tucano itself is a product of Brazil-based <!--more-->Embraer.<\/p>\n<p>Originally awarded in late December, as late as January 5th the Air Force had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kansas.com\/2012\/01\/05\/2163375\/air-force-temporarily-halts-contract.html\">put a hold on the contract<\/a> after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aviationweek.com\/aw\/generic\/story_channel.jsp?channel=defense&amp;id=news\/awx\/2011\/12\/27\/awx_12_27_2011_p0-409405.xml\">Hawker filed a lawsuit<\/a>.
