{"id":14550,"date":"2011-12-14T01:00:33","date_gmt":"2011-12-14T04:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=14550"},"modified":"2011-12-14T02:14:29","modified_gmt":"2011-12-14T05:14:29","slug":"fighter-pilots-disciplined-for-improper-pay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/12\/14\/fighter-pilots-disciplined-for-improper-pay\/","title":{"rendered":"Fighter Pilots Disciplined for Improper Pay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <em>Air Force Times <\/em>reports 12 California National Guard <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2011\/12\/ap-12-guard-pilots-reprimanded-in-dual-pay-scandal-120611\/\">fighter pilots are &#8220;being disciplined&#8221;<\/a> for taking improper pay.\u00a0 As noted last year, they <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/20\/milking-the-good-deal-fighter-pilots-investigated-for-improper-pay\/\">were investigated for spending<\/a> alert time at home and getting more than a day&#8217;s pay for a day&#8217;s work.<\/p>\n<p>None were charged criminally:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Keegan said six officers received letters of reprimand and one of those was removed from the Guard.<\/p>\n<p>None was charged <!--more-->criminally. [Guard spokesman Maj. Thomas] Keegan says it was a failure of leadership, not intentional fraud.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At least some of the pilots involved <a href=\"http:\/\/www.military.com\/news\/article\/national-guard-pilots-disciplined-in-dual-pay-scandal.html\">intend to fight the charges<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Col. Gary Taylor&#8230;has filed a defamation lawsuit seeking damages against the Guard&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Col. Taylor&#8217;s honor and reputation were publicly called into question by the government, and he looks forward to restoring both,&#8221; said James Walker, Taylor&#8217;s attorney.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>In an interview, Brig. Gen. Jonathan Flaugher, a former wing commander for the 144th&#8230;said he was told he owes about $35,000, but added that he had followed complex regulations in good faith and would appeal&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This has been a practice, pretty much, I think for about 20 years,&#8221; he said about his dual-pay approach. &#8220;We interpreted the rules the best that we could at the time.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sometimes the letter of the law is not clear.\u00a0 Sometimes things that are &#8220;legal&#8221; are not necessarily ethical.\u00a0 Christians in military service, as all\u00a0servicemembers,\u00a0need to make sure they hold themselves to the highest standard, so there is not even a <em>perception <\/em>of wrongdoing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Air Force Times reports 12 California National Guard fighter pilots are &#8220;being disciplined&#8221; for taking improper pay.\u00a0 As noted last year, they were investigated for spending alert time at home and getting more than a day&#8217;s pay for a day&#8217;s work.
