{"id":14533,"date":"2011-12-07T02:22:35","date_gmt":"2011-12-07T05:22:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=14533"},"modified":"2011-12-08T00:26:26","modified_gmt":"2011-12-08T03:26:26","slug":"rep-king-extremists-have-joined-us-military","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/12\/07\/rep-king-extremists-have-joined-us-military\/","title":{"rendered":"Rep King:  Extremists have Joined US Military"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><strong>Update<\/strong><\/em><\/span>:\u00a0 Members of the joint Congressional committee &#8220;blasted&#8221; the Department of Defense for downplaying talk of terrorism and referring to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2011\/12\/06\/military-growing-terrorist-target-lawmakers-warn\/\">Fort Hood massacre as &#8220;workplace violence.&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0 The DoD was\u00a0accused of being &#8220;politically correct&#8221; in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2011\/12\/gannett-dod-official-says-military-top-target-for-terrorists-120711\/\">avoiding association of the terrorist attacks with Islam<\/a> &#8212; the same thing it was found at fault for in the months leading up to the Fort Hood shooting.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>US Representative Peter King (R-NY), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, is holding another hearing on &#8220;homegrown terrorism.&#8221;\u00a0 While he was criticized for his earlier hearings on the subject for the implied negativity toward American Muslims, these new hearings are a joint meeting between the House and Senate committees, showing &#8220;threat is legitimate,&#8221; according to King.<\/p>\n<p>King and Senator Joe Lieberman, his Senate counterpart from Connecticut, both agreed that US military soft targets are &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2011\/12\/06\/military-growing-terrorist-target-lawmakers-warn\/\">increasingly in the terrorists&#8217; scope<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There is growing evidence that homegrown terrorists see military personnel and bases as legitimate, high-value targets, lawmakers <!--more-->said&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People in uniform are symbols of the United States. They&#8217;re symbols of America power, symbols of America might,&#8221; Rep. Peter King&#8230;&#8221;And if they (military personnel) can be killed, then that is a great propaganda victory for Al Qaeda.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The records show that the United States military has become a direct target of violent Islamist extremism here in the U.S., and that means soldiers and perhaps their families are potentially vulnerable at work and at rest, in a military setting or a civilian one,&#8221; [Lieberman said.]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>King went a step further, saying terrorists are likely already in uniform in the US military:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>King said there is also evidence that extremists have joined the services. &#8220;There is a serious threat within the military from people who have enlisted who are radical jihadists,&#8221; King stated. &#8220;The Defense Department is very concerned about them.
