{"id":144,"date":"2008-01-01T10:37:03","date_gmt":"2008-01-01T14:37:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=144"},"modified":"2009-09-02T12:46:40","modified_gmt":"2009-09-02T16:46:40","slug":"revisited-military-christian-priorities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2008\/01\/01\/revisited-military-christian-priorities\/","title":{"rendered":"Revisited: Military Christian Priorities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ChristianFighterPilot.com has published an ongoing\u00a0series of articles on the priorities of military Christians.\u00a0 As stated in the first article, the most-often cited Christian priorities\u00a0are God, family, and career.\u00a0 The God priority was addressed in the October <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=125\">article<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since the November article on the importance of <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=130\">family<\/a>, there have been two interesting and related news events.\u00a0 In one case, the Air Force Leadership published the recent\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/articles\/files\/rollcallfam.pdf\">Airman\u2019s Roll Call<\/a>\u00a0and highlighted the importance of family:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It&#8217;s [our families&#8217;] support that helps us perform our vital Air Force mission, and for this very reason, we must make the most of the time we have with them.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Historically, the Air Force has been the most &#8220;family friendly&#8221; of the services.\u00a0 It has repeatedly\u00a0shown that\u00a0it recognizes the importance of the Air Force member&#8217;s family to the accomplishment of the mission.\u00a0 As noted in the article on the <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=130\">family priority<\/a>, there is a spiritual reason for holding the family so dear.\u00a0 As the Air Force notes, however, valuing our families\u00a0is also a virtual military necessity.<\/p>\n<p>The second item of interest was the announcement of this year&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.baptistpress.org\/BPnews.asp?ID=27001\">Heisman winner<\/a>.\u00a0 Florida quarterback Tim Tebow was effusive in his thanks to God for his success, and the article notes that<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Football rates a mere fourth on his list of priorities behind God, family and academics.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The young college sophomore displayed an unusual degree of maturity\u00a0and understanding of life&#8217;s bigger purposes.\u00a0 Much as Indianapolis Colts&#8217; head coach Tony Dungy related in his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/reviews.htm#strength\">book<\/a>,\u00a0Tebow realized that football wasn&#8217;t everything, and that his life needed to reflect what was truly important:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[Football is]\u00a0a game that I love and you&#8217;ve got to remember that He gave me the ability and the opportunity to play and it can be gone at any moment&#8230;[In] football, in school, in living, I want people to&#8230;say, &#8220;Hey, there&#8217;s something different about this guy, and that&#8217;s because he has a relationship with Jesus Christ.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The pastor at his\u00a0Florida church noted Tebow&#8217;s\u00a0&#8220;postgame interviews and the ongoing Christian witness that&#8217;s quickly becoming his trademark.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There is a special place in the imagination of the American public for football players&#8211;especially quarterbacks.\u00a0 The same is true for members of the\u00a0military&#8211;especially fighter pilots.\u00a0 Just as their positions give football players unique platforms for Christ, so, too, do those of military Christians.\u00a0 Military Christians could probably learn a lesson from the life choices and boldness of\u00a0the young college sophomore.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ChristianFighterPilot.com has published an ongoing\u00a0series of articles on the priorities of military Christians.\u00a0 As stated in the first article, the most-often cited Christian priorities\u00a0are God, family, and career.\u00a0 The God priority was addressed in the October article.
