We need their talent,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is about managing talent. We have incredibly talented females who should be in those positions.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As with prior discussions, the article seems to place more emphasis on the &#8220;lost opportunities&#8221; for career advancement due to the lack of combat experience <!--more-->over the potential change in mission effectiveness if women were to serve in direct combat roles (though General Odierno focused on their &#8220;talent&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>As if to prove the point, the article says women have &#8220;proved their mettle,&#8221; and then cites as evidence the women who have been killed and wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan &#8212; as if death and injury are the standards of measurement.<\/p>\n<p>While &#8220;equality&#8221; is the <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/19\/all-female-flight-female-flight-suits-and-female-fighter-pilots\/\">recurring theme<\/a>, it is <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/03\/21\/women-in-combat-have-three-times-suicide-rate\/\">not as simple<\/a> as it might seem:\u00a0 For example, the military branches have yet to demand the same physical standards between the genders. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><strong>Update<\/strong><\/em><\/span>: And there are even separate &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.balad.afcent.af.mil\/news\/story.asp?id=123281270\">powder puff<\/a>&#8221; football games for the ladies in the military.<\/p>\n<p>The topic of women in the military <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/03\/30\/women-in-the-military-statistics-and-the-first-female-jfacc\/\">is complex<\/a>; some might say it is as <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/17\/dadt-and-women-in-combat-the-logical-outcome\/\">much or more so than the topic of homosexuals<\/a> in the military.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The US Army Chief of Staff, General Ray Odierno, has said he wants an expanded role for women in combat units: \u201cWe need them there.
