{"id":13341,"date":"2011-09-20T01:06:45","date_gmt":"2011-09-20T06:06:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=13341"},"modified":"2013-10-18T22:31:52","modified_gmt":"2013-10-19T01:31:52","slug":"dadt-ambiguity-calls-for-protections-continue-with-repeal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/09\/20\/dadt-ambiguity-calls-for-protections-continue-with-repeal\/","title":{"rendered":"DADT: Ambiguity, Calls for Protections Continue with Repeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A\u00a0US Department of Defense news\u00a0release indicated\u00a0the Defense Department\u00a0was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defense.gov\/\/news\/newsarticle.aspx?id=65372\">&#8220;set&#8221; for the repeal<\/a> of the policy most commonly known as &#8220;Don&#8217;t Ask, Don&#8217;t Tell.&#8221;\u00a0 The release had an interesting statement regarding policy changes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>While many changes in policies and regulations already have taken place, some changes in how repeal of the \u201cDon\u2019t Ask, Don\u2019t Tell\u201d law will be implemented must wait until after the law takes effect.<\/p>\n<p>These policies and regulations will be promulgated tomorrow [Tuesday], the Pentagon press secretary said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/2011\/09\/ap-pentagon-military-ready-for-gay-ban-repeal-091911w\/\">elsewhere described<\/a> as<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As soon as the ban is lifted, the Defense Department will publish revised regulations to reflect the new law that will allow gays to serve openly. The revisions [include] eliminating references to banned homosexual service&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This appears to be some of the &#8220;missing&#8221; information <!--more-->the <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/09\/19\/congress-calls-for-delay-in-tomorrows-dadt-repeal\/\">House Armed Services Committee and others<\/a> were looking for, saying the military should have already published it.\u00a0 Groups of Chaplains and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.onenewsnow.com\/Culture\/Default.aspx?id=1437236\">endorsers<\/a> have continued to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deseretnews.com\/article\/700179807\/Ambiguity-causes-concern-for-freedoms-of-military-chaplains-after-repeal-of-Dont-Ask-Dont-Tell.html\">press for guidance and religious freedom protections<\/a> for Chaplains and members of the military with religious or moral opposition to homosexuality.<\/p>\n<p>Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council <a href=\"http:\/\/www.frc.org\/get.cfm?i=PR11I13&amp;f=RF07B02\">called for a halt to repeal<\/a>, noting the absence of guidance on key issues raised by Congress.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Members of Congress are still waiting for answers to their questions about how opening the military to homosexuality will affect issues of religious freedom, conscience exemptions and same-sex partner benefits.
