{"id":1316,"date":"2009-10-09T00:30:56","date_gmt":"2009-10-09T07:30:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=1316"},"modified":"2015-06-27T19:16:31","modified_gmt":"2015-06-27T22:16:31","slug":"us-soldiers-practice-faith-free-exercise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/09\/us-soldiers-practice-faith-free-exercise\/","title":{"rendered":"US Soldiers Practice Faith, Free Exercise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly 100 American Muslim soldiers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.army.mil\/-news\/2009\/09\/24\/27787-soldiers-celebrate-end-of-ramadan\/index.html\">gathered at Fort Jackson<\/a> to pray as a group to mark <em>Eid al Fitr<\/em>, celebrating the end of Ramadan.\u00a0 The call to prayer was led by Chaplain (Lt Col) Abdul-Rasheed Muhammad of the US Army Chaplain Center and School.\u00a0 The Chaplain lauded the soldiers&#8217; participation, saying<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We want (the Soldiers) to be empowered through the spiritual foundation that Islam provides.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When members of the military fail in their respect and protection of religious liberty, <!--more-->it is often front page news.\u00a0 Unfortunately, successes are often treated as non-events.\u00a0 For example, in this barely-noted story, a Muslim soldier recounts how the Drill Sergeants in basic training specifically ensured that he understood his freedom to exercise his religion:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;When I came here, I was scared that we couldn&#8217;t do our Muslim practice, but in basic training they told us we are allowed to fast during Ramadan,&#8221; said one Soldier who chose not to be identified. &#8220;Yesterday, when I was training, (the drill sergeants) told me I was allowed to (participate) here, because I&#8217;m Muslim. &#8230; I found there is a lot of freedom to practice my Eid here, especially in the Army. It&#8217;s too easy.
