What is reportedly NASA’s first “lunar Bible” is being auctioned in a “Space and Aviation Artifacts”<\/a> event this month.<\/p>\n

The tiny object, an intact microfilm of the King James Bible containing all 1,245 pages and measuring 1.5 x 1.5 inches, will be included in the auction by PR Auction on the company’s website\u00a0beginning Sept. 15.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The miniscule Bible was reportedly a product of the Apollo Prayer League — a group of NASA employees from all fields — and it was created to fulfill\u00a0 <\/p>\n

NASA officials’ desire to land a Bible on the moon…to honor the deaths of three Apollo One astronauts who died during a flash fire on the launch pad on Jan. 27, 1967.<\/p>\n

One of the astronauts who died, Edward White II, had told a reporter before his death that he hoped one day to carry a Bible to the moon…<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It does not appear NASA restricted its astronauts’ or engineers’ religious exercise, allowing Christian astronauts to partake in communion in space<\/a> and read the Bible to the world<\/a>.\u00a0 Atheists have taken issue<\/a>, naturally, but their offense has been unrequited.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
