And they stay away from talking about politics, religion or girls because those <!--more-->topics could escalate into major disagreements (they can\u2019t communicate anyway because of the language barrier).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The mention of religion is interesting because of how much religion is integral to the war effort (and the fact religion may actually be viewed positively in Afghanistan).\u00a0 Of course, most (though certainly not all) of those discussions occur on a strategic level by men trained in such interactions.\u00a0 They probably don&#8217;t want Privates getting into an argument with their Afghan counterparts on the validity of the &#8220;Ground Zero&#8221; mosque or the presence of US military <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/14\/buddhist-services-at-camp-leatherneck\/\">Buddhists<\/a> and US Army <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csmonitor.com\/2007\/1113\/p20s01-usmi.html\">Jewish Rabbis<\/a> on Afghan soil.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A writer for the Marine Corps Times bemoans the topic of &#8220;farts&#8221; in a recent article.
