{"id":12566,"date":"2011-08-16T01:30:07","date_gmt":"2011-08-16T06:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=12566"},"modified":"2011-08-16T01:11:48","modified_gmt":"2011-08-16T06:11:48","slug":"navy-t-34-crash-was-avoidable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/08\/16\/navy-t-34-crash-was-avoidable\/","title":{"rendered":"Navy: T-34 Crash was Avoidable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The report on the T-34 crash that occurred in New Orleans <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/26\/t-34-instructor-presumed-dead-student-rescued\/\">in January 2010<\/a> says the incident, in which the instructor pilot was killed, could have been prevented.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/2011\/08\/navy-t-34-crash-avoidable-report-says-081411w\/\">According to the <em>Navy Times<\/em><\/a>, the aircraft descended below required minimums without visually acquiring the runway.\u00a0 The aircraft then impacted the water.\u00a0 Both crewmembers climbed out; they didn&#8217;t have water survival gear.\u00a0 They became separated, and the instructor pilot&#8217;s body was <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/28\/navy-pilots-body-recovered\/\">found a few days later<\/a>.\u00a0 The student <!--more-->survived.<\/p>\n<p>The flight was apparently one leg of a pilot training cross country.<\/p>\n<p>The incident is known as &#8220;Controlled Flight Into Terrain,&#8221; or &#8220;CFIT,&#8221; in which a pilot flies a perfectly good airplane into the ground (in this case, the lake).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The report on the T-34 crash that occurred in New Orleans in January 2010 says the incident, in which the instructor pilot was killed, could have been prevented.
