{"id":12434,"date":"2011-08-10T01:45:10","date_gmt":"2011-08-10T06:45:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=12434"},"modified":"2011-08-08T02:23:44","modified_gmt":"2011-08-08T07:23:44","slug":"christians-should-serve-where-they-are","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/08\/10\/christians-should-serve-where-they-are\/","title":{"rendered":"Christians Should Serve Where They Are"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tullian Tchividjian, grandson of Billy Graham and current Pastor at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, has an interesting article with application to Christians in all walks of life, including the military:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/news\/youre-free-to-stay-put-53495\/\">You&#8217;re free to stay put<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In becoming a Christian, we don\u2019t need to retreat from the vocational calling we already have-nor do we need to justify that calling, whatever it is, in terms of its \u201cspiritual\u201d value or evangelistic <!--more-->usefulness.<\/p>\n<p>We simply exercise whatever our calling is with new God-glorifying motives, goals, and standards-and with a renewed commitment to performing our calling with greater excellence and higher objectives.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Like <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/01\/r-g-letourneau-mover-of-men-and-mountains\/\">R.G. LeTourneau<\/a>, he makes the point that you don&#8217;t have to give up your current career field to serve God.\u00a0 In fact, while some may specifically be &#8220;called&#8221; to &#8220;the ministry,&#8221; the Bible seems to encourage us to stay where we are and serve God in &#8220;ministry&#8221; wherever we are.\u00a0 In short, we become missionaries to our field.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I once heard Os Guinness address a question about why the church in the late 20th century was not having a larger impact in our world when there were more people going to church than ever before. He said the main reason was not that Christians weren\u2019t where they should be&#8230;Rather, the main reason is that Christians aren\u2019t who they should be right where they are.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In short, many Christians today have &#8220;compartmentalized&#8221; their faith to Sunday morning, instead of living it out every day.<\/p>\n<p>Just like every other profession, choosing to &#8220;serve God&#8221; doesn&#8217;t mean a Christian has to abandon the military profession.\u00a0 Like the others, <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/03\/10\/huckabee-engage-the-fighter-pilot-culture\/\">Christians in the military can be missionaries<\/a> to their fields as well.<\/p>\n<p>The way Christians impact the military &#8212; the world &#8212; for Christ is to be <em>in it<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tullian Tchividjian, grandson of Billy Graham and current Pastor at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, has an interesting article with application to Christians in all walks of life, including the military: You&#8217;re free to stay put.
