{"id":12399,"date":"2011-08-31T01:30:42","date_gmt":"2011-08-31T06:30:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=12399"},"modified":"2011-08-29T00:12:36","modified_gmt":"2011-08-29T05:12:36","slug":"commercial-pilot-jobs-to-takeoff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/08\/31\/commercial-pilot-jobs-to-takeoff\/","title":{"rendered":"Commercial Pilot Jobs to Takeoff?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The US military pays certain career fields &#8220;bonuses&#8221; and other incentive pays for a fairly simple reason:\u00a0 to keep people in the military who would otherwise make far more money outside of it.\u00a0 Some have complained, then, when the economy turns:\u00a0 For example, when the airline industry took a dive, some questioned what reason there could be for giving military pilots incentive pay.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Air Force Times <\/em>claims the &#8220;commercial pilot job market&#8221; is now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2011\/07\/air-force-commercial-pilot-market-boom-072211w\/\">set &#8220;for a boom,&#8221;<\/a> however.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>After nearly a four-year drought of openings, airlines are predicting they will hire more pilots in the next decade than they ever have. Aircraft maker Boeing forecasts a need for 466,650 more commercial pilots by 2029 \u2014 an average of 23,300 a year.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>They also noted that changes in the Air Force culture may affect <!--more-->Air Force officers&#8217; ability to join the airlines:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Despite the high percentage of military aviators at Southwest, [Rocky Calkins, a former F-15 pilot who now is Southwest\u2019s pilot hiring manager]\u00a0said he has seen the number coming from the Air Force drop because many airmen simply can\u2019t meet the minimum pilot-in-command hours needed to land the job. Southwest requires its pilots to have 1,000 flying hours.<\/p>\n<p>Some Air Force pilots are getting 800 flying hours before they get transferred to fly unmanned vehicles, Calkins said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The article says the Air Force isn&#8217;t worried about the commercial sector siphoning off pilots.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Air Force is having no problem retaining airmen right now&#8230;Retention for fighter pilots with more than 17 years of rated service is the highest since 2004 and second-highest in the last 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>But if there\u2019s competition for its pilots, the Air Force is ready to sweeten the pot, [spokesman Maj.
