Private First Class Naser Abdo has reportedly been arrested by Texas police near Fort Hood, Texas.\u00a0 Abdo wasn’t assigned to Fort Hood; he was assigned to Fort Campbell in Kentucky.\u00a0 The Army said Abdo was AWOL<\/a> from Fort Campbell<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Local police indicated they had interrupted a “terror plot<\/a>”\u00a0in their arrest of PFC Abdo.\u00a0 He was reportedly found\u00a0with guns, gunpowder, and the makings of a backpack bomb.\u00a0 The arrest was made possible by a tip from local gundealer Guns Galore.\u00a0 Clerk Greg Ebert said the staff of the store was concerned<\/a> because Abdo\u00a0was purchasing large quantities of gunpowder — while asking questions about how to use it<\/a>.\u00a0 Guns Galore is reportedly the same store where Maj Nidal Malik Hasan purchased his firearm<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to AP reports, Abdo has admitted to planning an attack at Fort Hood to “get even<\/a>,” and chose Fort Hood because of the attack in 2009 by\u00a0Hasan.\u00a0 He reportedly said he planned to blow up a restaurant frequented by Fort Hood Soldiers and shoot the survivors as they came out.<\/p>\n

Abdo had applied for conscientious objector status<\/a>, and it had been approved<\/a> — despite criticisms from a Muslim group<\/a> that he was a “traitor” for using his Islamic faith to get out of the military.\u00a0 Among other comments, Abdo had said<\/a><\/p>\n

“Any Muslim who knows his religion or maybe takes into account what his religion says can find out very clearly why he should not participate in the US military.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

His discharge was subsequently put on hold pending his referral to a General Court Martial on child pornography charges<\/a>.\u00a0 The pictures were apparently found during an investigation following “anti-American comments<\/a>” during a language class.<\/p>\n

While\u00a0PFC Abdo has been named in many articles alongside Army Specialist Zachari Klawonn<\/a>, who was “represented” by Michael Weinstein’s MRFF,\u00a0it does not appear Weinstein has had any public relationship<\/a> with Abdo (beyond Abdo “liking” him on Facebook).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
