{"id":10918,"date":"2011-04-28T02:00:11","date_gmt":"2011-04-28T07:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=10918"},"modified":"2015-06-27T19:15:24","modified_gmt":"2015-06-27T22:15:24","slug":"chaplain-ministers-to-soldiers-locals-in-uganda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/28\/chaplain-ministers-to-soldiers-locals-in-uganda\/","title":{"rendered":"Chaplain Ministers to Soldiers, Locals in Uganda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chaplain (Capt) Andy Shepherd and his assistant, Sgt Desmond Manning, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dvidshub.net\/news\/69155\/georgia-ng-chaplain-proves-himself-shepherd-good-will\">deployed to Uganda with the Georgia National Guard<\/a> in support of ATLAS DROP 11.\u00a0 While their primary purpose was to serve the spiritual and morale needs of the Soldiers in their unit,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Their job didn\u2019t end at the edge of the Drop Zone, both Shepherd and Manning reached out to the surrounding communities.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The locals seemed to be keen on the American forces, and even more so on the Chaplain:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The locals were really glad to see us, and that really just touched my heart,&#8221; said Shepherd. &#8220;That really just put a drive in me to go visit more people out in the community to let them know we\u2019re here and that we care and as a chaplain \u2014 as a Christian \u2014 just to show the love of God and that I do care, that I am concerned.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As a result, the Chaplain team&#8217;s ministry expanded:\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>That first walk around Soroti sparked a desire in Shepherd and Manning to get out more and meet people and visit schools, churches and orphanages to assess their needs and what they could do to help. Since that first walk they played soccer and prayed with school children, talked to numerous clergy from various faiths about their ministries shook hundreds of hands.
