{"id":10565,"date":"2011-04-04T01:30:35","date_gmt":"2011-04-04T06:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=10565"},"modified":"2011-04-03T22:26:32","modified_gmt":"2011-04-04T03:26:32","slug":"a-10-crashes-in-germany-harrier-down-in-mideast-2-uavs-in-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/04\/a-10-crashes-in-germany-harrier-down-in-mideast-2-uavs-in-us\/","title":{"rendered":"A-10 Crashes in Germany, Harrier Down in Mideast, 2 UAVs in US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An A-10 <em>Thunderbolt II <\/em>(Warthog) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.af.mil\/news\/story.asp?id=123249631\">crashed near Spangdahlem Air Base<\/a>, Germany, on Friday, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stripes.com\/news\/europe\/germany\/a-10-thunderbolt-ii-crashes-near-spangdahlem-air-base-1.139749\">according to the US Air Force<\/a>.\u00a0 The pilot ejected and was airlifted to a hospital; locals said he complained of a back injury.\u00a0 As is the usual procedure, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2011\/04\/air-force-a10-crashes-in-germany-040111\/\">incident will be investigated<\/a> and a report issued in a month or more.<\/p>\n<p>The A-10 has <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/03\/29\/fighter-pilot-describes-mission-over-libya\/\">recently been used in Libya<\/a>, most publicly attacking boats along the coast.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Marine Times <\/em>reports an AV-8B <!--more--><em>Harrier <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/2011\/03\/marine-harrier-crash-in-gulf-of-aden-033011\/\">crashed in the Gulf of Aden<\/a> shortly after takeoff from the USS <em>Boxer<\/em>.\u00a0 The pilot safely ejected just off the boat and was recovered by the waiting rescue helicopter.<\/p>\n<p>An MQ-9 <em>Reaper <\/em>reportedly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2011\/04\/ap-mq-9-reaper-crashes-at-holloman-air-force-base-040211\/\">crashed on landing<\/a> at Holloman AFB, NM.\u00a0 The crew were able to safely walk away from their computer consoles.<\/p>\n<p>A few days earlier the UAV <em>Global Observer<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.avinc.com\/uas\/stratospheric\/global_observer\/\">built by AeroVironment<\/a>, reportedly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2011\/04\/air-force-global-observer-crash-at-edwards-040111w\/\">crashed in Rogers Lakebed<\/a> near Edwards Air Force Base, California.\u00a0 The one-off\u00a0UAV <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edwards.af.mil\/news\/story.asp?id=123218225\">first flew last August<\/a>, and was intended to test the possibilities of slow-speed, long duration flight fueled by liquid hydrogen.\u00a0 Responders to the scene apparently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edwards.af.mil\/news\/story.asp?id=123249746\">found no survivors<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An A-10 Thunderbolt II (Warthog) crashed near Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, on Friday, according to the US Air Force.\u00a0 The pilot ejected and was airlifted to a hospital; locals said he complained of a back injury.\u00a0 As is the usual procedure, the incident will be investigated and a report issued in a month or more.
