{"id":10230,"date":"2011-03-23T01:30:49","date_gmt":"2011-03-23T06:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=10230"},"modified":"2011-03-23T00:57:04","modified_gmt":"2011-03-23T05:57:04","slug":"us-army-chaplain-teaches-religions-in-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/03\/23\/us-army-chaplain-teaches-religions-in-afghanistan\/","title":{"rendered":"US Army Chaplain Teaches Religions in Afghanistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chaplain (Capt) Jerry Johnson, a US Army Chaplain deployed to Afghanistan, demonstrates the varied roles military Chaplains can play in theatre.\u00a0 He protects the free religious freedom of the men and women he serves.\u00a0 He advises the commander on issues of religion.<\/p>\n<p>And he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cjtf101.com\/en\/regional-command-east-news-mainmenu-401\/4161-tf-knighthawk-chaplain-teaches-world-religions-on-fob-shank.html\">teaches world religions<\/a>.\u00a0 Seven different ones, to be precise.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s an extension of the chaplain ministry to educate Soldiers <!--more-->on religions and the impact religion has within the operational environment; and it helps Soldiers with their college credits,\u201d said Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>World Religions is a basic introduction to the concept of studying faith with a specific focus on seven designated religions. Part one of Johnson\u2019s class covers the Eastern religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism and Confucianism; along with a short summary of indigenous religions found in Australia, Africa and the Americas. Part two emphasizes the concepts found in Judaism, Christianity and Islam.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Some of the Soldiers had rather strategic reasons for taking the class<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI wanted to understand the world around me and what the foundations of other nationalities are,\u201d said U.S. Army Spc. Courtney Pool&#8230;\u201cI wanted to study a subject that would help me relate to and compare with people of different backgrounds and belief systems than mine.\u201d<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nU.S. Army Pfc. Osie Rolle-Cook&#8230;said she was especially impressed by Buddhism.<\/p>\n<p>The senior ranking participant, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Leroy Madison&#8230;felt the class was surprisingly courteous in tone though many students voiced strong convictions in faith within the various discussions.
