{"id":10122,"date":"2011-03-10T02:30:14","date_gmt":"2011-03-10T07:30:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=10122"},"modified":"2015-06-27T19:15:27","modified_gmt":"2015-06-27T22:15:27","slug":"us-army-says-soldier-erred-in-treatment-over-christian-concert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/03\/10\/us-army-says-soldier-erred-in-treatment-over-christian-concert\/","title":{"rendered":"US Army Says Soldier &#8220;Erred&#8221; in Treatment over Christian Concert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to various reports, a US Army Staff Sergeant marched a group of Soldiers to a voluntary Christian concert put on by BarlowGirl at Fort Eustis.\u00a0 When some said they didn&#8217;t want to attend, they were marched back to their barracks and told to stay there, without access to their personal electronics and nothing to do but clean the barracks.<\/p>\n<p>This was a result of a &#8220;miscommunication,&#8221; according to the Army; there was no &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/2011\/03\/ap-soldiers-wrongly-punished-for-skipping-concert-030811\/\">malicious<\/a>&#8221; or even &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailypress.com\/news\/military\/dp-nws-eustis-concert-20110308-11,0,3543541.story\">intentional<\/a>&#8221; act.<\/p>\n<p>The company commander found out <!--more-->and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2011\/03\/08\/soldiers-wrongly-punished-skipping-concert\/\">apologized to the Soldiers the next day<\/a>.\u00a0 Contrary to prior assumptions that &#8220;about half&#8221; didn&#8217;t attend the concert, the reports indicate it was approximately 20 of a group of 200.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/08\/23\/soldiers-claim-retribution-over-christian-concert\/\">previous contention<\/a>\u00a0their treatment may have been consistent with other training environments was not specifically addressed, though the specific treatment of the Soldiers was not disputed.\u00a0 Nothing in the reports indicates the Staff Sergeant&#8217;s conduct was related to the content of the concert, religious or not.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Weinstein, of course, is upset the investigation didn&#8217;t turn up proof for his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2011\/mar\/09\/soldiers-punished-refusing-attend-rock-concert\">Christian-usurpation conspiracy theory<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A US army sergeant who confined dozens of soldiers to barracks and ordered them to clean up after they refused to attend a Christian concert was part of an &#8220;absolute attempt to establish fundamental Christianity in the military&#8221;, [Weinstein]\u00a0alleged.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Contrary to his accusations, the incident was determined to be an error by an individual, not evidence of an institutional conspiracy.\u00a0 As astounding as it is to some, in an institution of 3 million total force members, not every person is correct all the time.\u00a0 When people act incorrectly or inappropriately, they should be corrected or counseled.\u00a0 Such conduct does not prove that Christians are trying to take over the world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to various reports, a US Army Staff Sergeant marched a group of Soldiers to a voluntary Christian concert put on by BarlowGirl at Fort Eustis.\u00a0 When some said they didn&#8217;t want to attend, they were marched back to their barracks and told to stay there, without access to their personal electronics and nothing to do but clean the barracks.
