US Navy Chaplain Baptizes Marines in Philippines

US Navy Chaplain (LT) Nathan Grooms recently led a beach service near Subic Bay, Philippines, that was attended by more than 170 Marines — and 21 chose to be baptized. Of those 21, eight were American — the rest, from the local Philippine Military.

That’s a good story in itself about the US military’s support for religious freedom wherever its troops are deployed.

It’s also worth noting, however, that the US Marine Corps is continuing to support this type of service despite criticism and threats. Years ago Michael “Mikey” Weinstein called a similar baptism service “propaganda” for America’s adversaries, naturally implying such religious exercise should be banned.

That the US military continues to support the public religious exercise of its troops — and even a US chaplain baptizing local nationals in a foreign military — despite his attacks on religious liberty gives you an idea about what it thinks about Mikey Weinstein.
